Banksy is the world's most famous—and most elusive—street artist. Remaining anonymous for over three decades, Banksy uses his distinctive stenciling technique to deliver sharp, satirical messages on topics ranging from war and capitalism to surveillance and social hypocrisy. Emerging from the Bristol underground scene in the 1990s, his work has moved from the walls of buildings to the world's most prestigious auction houses. Banksy is known for his elaborate stunts, such as the shredding of 'Girl with Balloon' during a Sotheby's auction in 2018. His projects, like the 'Dismaland' bemusement park and the 'Walled Off Hotel' in Bethlehem, extend his practice into immersive social commentary, challenging the very nature of the art market he occupies.
